About little light stitchery

My vision for Little Light Stitchery is to be able to give everyone a little bit of loveliness to hang in their homes or to gift to others.

And I want to pass on the skill of embroidery so that people can find their own enjoyment in stitching and creating something wonderful.

Hi! I’m Nicky, owner, designer, stitcher, marketing manager, finance director and general dogsbody at Little Light Stitchery!

Needlecrafts have always been a part of my life. I was born in the Cotswolds, a very beautiful part of the countryside in the UK. It was an amazing place to grow up, swimming in the river, tramping through fields and most importantly for my future self, living in a needlecraft shop!

My parents were, and still are, avid stitchers. I learnt a lot from those years in the shop, albeit mostly subconsciously! My real passion at the time was synchronised swimming. I was a real water baby then and I still am, although I have switched my allegiance to stamina and open water swimming,

But those years in the shop definitely laid a foundation for the rest of my life. I went on to study Civil Engineering at UMIST in Manchester and had a very fulfilling 20 year long career in the industry. But through that whole time I usually had a needlework or textile project on the go. Cross stitch, needlepoint, weaving, knitting, crochet, sewing… I love the thought, time and care that goes into handmade work. Even after a stressful work day, just picking up a hoop or some knitting needles would give me a different focus, something mindful, something for me and I would enjoy the making process as much as the finished product.

In 2015 we had our son, Travis, and work took on a different meaning for me. My whole self turned more inwards, to our family, and I found that I just didn’t have the ability, or energy, to give my all to my career and my family. So I took the difficult decision (although with hindsight, probably one of the easiest decisions too), to leave the civil engineering profession and start Little Light Stitchery.

Little Light Stitchery is now my full time job and I’m loving every minute of it. Running a small business isn’t always easy, having to wear all of the ‘hats’ can be hard, but right now I’m happier than a pig in s**t! I have recently moved out of our spare room and into a studio which has been a brilliant move, not least because I can now ‘go to work’ and we have our spare room back (and there aren’t piles of fabric everywhere!). I have lots of plans for the future, lots of products that are in development, lots of conversations going on behind the scenes, so watch this space!

Nicky made two hoops for me both of which were gorgeous. She made a personalised one of my honeymoon cruise locations and it is just a beautiful keepsake. She kept in contact with me to let me know how she was getting on and when they would be posted. Brilliant service! Thank you !

Nicky created a custom hoop for me to give as a gift. It came out absolutely amazing. Nicky understood exactly what I wanted and made it so beautiful. I really love all her styles of hoop and the country map one is my favourite! I would definitely recommend Little Light Stitchery if you want a beautifully made custom embroidery hoop.
